Yahoo Pay Per Click Search Engine
Details, Promotions and Special Offers

Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture) is the grand-daddy of all pay-per-click search engines. Originally just a standalone search site called "Goto.com," the company was renamed Overture and quickly grew to dominate the burgeoning pay per performance market by partnering with some of the top names in Internet search including Yahoo!, MSN and Alta Vista. In 2003, Yahoo! acquired Overture and in 2005, the PPC search provider was re-branded as "Yahoo! Search Marketing." With a single Yahoo PPC account, you can appear at the top of the search results on Yahoo, Alta Vista, Lycos, AllTheWeb, and dozens of other smaller search engines. And since it is based on the pay-per-click model, you will only pay for each visitor to your site.

Note: As of November, 2005, the minimum deposit is now just $5 and the $20 minimum monthly spend has been eliminated, making it easier than ever to advertise on Yahoo! Search Marketing, no matter how large or small your budget.

Location, Location, Location...

With Overture's acquisition by Yahoo, it's clear that Yahoo! Search Marketing has a virtual lock on prime real estate of one of the most popular web sites in the world - Yahoo.com. This popularity comes at a cost however. Yahoo's minimum bid is currently 10 cents per click, unlike smaller pay-per-click search engines, such as Kanoodle and Enhance, which are still offering bids as low as 5 cents per click.

On Yahoo, many of the more popular keywords reach into the $5 to $10 per click range -- outside the scope of many small to medium sized businesses. Everyone wants the front page of Yahoo so more bidders hike the price of bidding up so that only the big budgets survive.

Yahoo Search Marketing's paid listings appear at the top of results on search engines such as Yahoo and AltaVista.

This is not to say that you cannot find any keyword bargains on Yahoo, but it does suggest that you should be as targeted as possible when selecting keywords. In other words, if you are an apartment broker who rents apartments in Manhattan, but does not sell real estate, then bid on phrases like "apartments for rent in Manhattan" and "new york city apartment rentals" but do not bid on generic keywords like "real estate" or even "NY real estate." The more targeted keywords are usually less expensive than the general keywords, plus they also attract a more targeted visitor that should be looking for exactly what you have to offer.

Target Customers Geographically

As of late 2006, Yahoo has enhanced their paid search marketing to include geo-targetting functions so you can have your ad appear in specific geographic areas or countries. This can allow you to hone in on a specific region in case your business only operates in specific areas. These geo-targetting features will be available to you once you establish your account on Yahoo.

Signing up for Yahoo Search Marketing is a simple process. They offer two sign up options:

  • Self-Serve. : Here you select your own search terms, maximum bids and write up your own listings. These are reviewed by Yahoo's editorial team for relevancy and accuracy and usually go live within 5 to 10 business days. Through an exclusive partnership with Yahoo! Search Marketing, we are able to offer visitors $50 off a new account sign-up through this link so you can get as many as 500 free clicks.
  • FastTrack. : If you're eager to get started and don't have time to do the keyword research, writing and submissions then you can choose instead to have Yahoo do it for you. In this case, Yahoo does the keyword research and creates the listings for you for a fee of $199 and gets your ads up and running within 3 business days. With our Yahoo partnership, we are able to offer visitors $50 off a new FastTrack sign-up through this link which reduces the cost to $149. This is a worthwhile investment if your time is limited and you need to get your ads live ASAP.

To supplement your Yahoo listings, also consider setting up pay per click accounts on Kanoodle, FindWhat, Search123 and Enhance Interactive. While these will probably not bring you as much traffic as Overture, they will provide supplemental highly targeted exposure for a lower overall per-click cost.

Web-Search-Engines.com can also set up and manage your entire pay per click effort, doing extensive keyword research, writing up powerful impactful ad copy and managing your costs within your specific budget.
